Junior Curators

T.H. Harris Middle School “Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry” Projects

Eighth Grade Photo Stories

Eighth grade students created a virtual exhibition of works from The Ogden’s collection, using works which illuminate and/or illustrate the world of “Roll of Thunder Hear My Cry”. The virtual exhibition includes “curatorial commentary,” that is, explanations of how the art relates to the book.

Seventh Grade Online Books

Seventh grade students, having seen works in the museum that illuminate the world of Roll of Thunder Hear My Cry, selected a quotation from the novel and illustrated that quotation by creating a silhouette. The silhouettes with quotations have been compiled into an online book.

Audubon Elementary Creates Podcasts About Louisiana Artists

Audubon students visit The Ogden

Fifth grade students from Audubon Elementary visited The Ogden in January to view ten works of art by different Louisiana artists. The students carefully looked at the works of art, asked questions, and took notes.  When they returned to school, they continued their research on the internet of the various art works and artists. The students then wrote podcast scripts, which included a description of the art, information about the artist, history of the artwork, and a personal reaction to the art.

Virtual Gallery and Day With an Artist

Pat Taylor art and journalism students worked in collaboration to create a virtual gallery, student artwork, and a short documentary about the project. Art students created a virtual gallery by selecting works from The Ogden’s online collection. The students recorded their impressions of the work as podcasts. The students visited the museum for a tour where art students participated in a workshop with local artist Gina Phillips while the journalism students created a documentary about the project.
