Louisiana Tricksters presented by Calliope Puppets

November 14, 2009

CALLIOPE PUPPETS kick ed off a puppet workshop series at the Ogden Museum of Southern Art with a performance of “Louisiana Tricksters”. Drawn from the worldwide genre of trickster tales, these two stories feature some lively southern characters with West African as well as Cajun roots. The clever Rabbit, Compere Lapin, fools Bouki into accepting the short end of the harvest – not once, but twice! And, in the adaptation of a Cajun tale, Chef Etouffée does not end up cooking Turtle Soup after all. Traditional hand puppets, made by the puppeteer, brought to life these comical tales. The show closed with a mini-workshop including a simple puppet of Compere Lapin to take home.
